How to Honor a Life

It’s about bringing those you love together, at a time of loss. It’s a natural thing to do.  More importantly, a funeral service is the first step in healing.

We will help you individualize the service to reflect your loved one's personality. Your choices can include the place of the service, day of the week, and time of day.  We will help coordinate the Clergy of your choice, what prayers will be said or songs you’d like sung and we will work with any Cemetery of your choice.  We can assist you with any specific requests your family may have.  We’re here to help you create a memorable and meaningful service that will honor your loved one.COMMUNITY OWNEDWe are  MOTIVATED BY COMPASSION.We are YOUR FUNERAL HOME.

What About Cremation?

Cremation is not in keeping with Jewish Tradition.  First we recommend that you should read our "Perspective on Cremation" written by Rabbi Boruch Levin. It is located in the section entitied: Resources.

If you or your loved have talked about cremation as an answer to environmental issues, you should be aware of the large carbon footprint that is created initially in order to create a crematory.  That no matter how environmentally safe the crematory is, the amount of carbon that is used in order to make the crematory is far beyond something environmentally safe.IF you are an environmentalist.......TODAY, THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE!  The Detroit Jewish Community now has available to them, the first GREEN CERTIFIED JEWISH NATURE PRESERVE CEMETERY in the country.  Hebrew Memorial Gardens, a section of Hebrew Memorial Park Cemeteries, is located within Beth Moses Cemetery in Roseville.

Rather then removing acres of trees in order to create a cemetery, Hebrew Memorial Gardens has within its borders, five acres of pristine woodland gravesites which are located in a beautiful green setting defined by meandering pathways and quiet hollows.

This site has been developed in strict adherence to both Jewish Law and the highest certification set forth by the Green Burial Council--an independent, nonprofit organization focused on protection our precious natural areas by encouraging environmentally responsible burials.  Family circles, companion plots and individual sites are available.

If your family decides on a totally  'green burial.' option,  we'll help you select an environmentally-friendly choice.

What's Next?

Now that we've given you the basics, it's time to reflect more on exactly what is appropriate for you and your family. If possible, gather everyone together to speak of their feelings and desires.
