RABBI ELIEZER COHEN

September 1, 2013

Age 67, of Oak Park, died August 31, 2013. A creative thinker and artist, Rabbi Cohen stood up for what he knew was right. The ultimate rationalist, he was the Rabbi of Young Israel of Oak Woods for 11 years and more recently, the Rabbi at Or Chadash. He taught at Akiva for 39 years and a prime consideration for him was the honor of Torah. His students knew this and that he would not excuse them or himself for trivial pursuits. In the 39 years of teaching, he only missed a handful of days. With a passion for learning and teaching Torah, he wrote a Torah portion article for the Jewish News for several decades. He taught community classes throughout all these years. His family was always first, but he also enjoyed collecting antiques and Judaica artifacts. The funeral service will be held at Hebrew Memorial Chapel. A link will be provided for a webcast of the funeral service. Family Info: Beloved husband for over 41 years to Aviva Cohen. Devoted father of Rabbi Azaryah Moshe (Aliza) Cohen, Hananya Aryeh (Chana Dena) Cohen, Yedida Chasya "Dee Dee" (Yitzie) Rabhan, Nehemya Yosef (Mindy) Cohen, Saadya Raphael (Chava) Cohen, Tova Chaya (Nachi) Levitansky, Bracha Alta (Ezra) Drissman, Devorah Leah (Alex) VanNess, Golda Miriam "Goldie" Cohen, Aaron Dov Cohen and Shoshana Esther (Moshe) Rothstein. Proud grandfather of Yedidyah, Noam, Ahuva, Aryeh and Esther Liesel Cohen, Ava Cohen, Hudi and Rikki Rabhan, Yitzy, Simcha and Naama Cohen, Chaim, Michali and Mendel Levitansky and Dalia Drissman. Cherished brother of Ellen (Ed) Zelniker, Dr. Dennis (Marilyn) Cohen and the late Michael Cohen. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Beloved Rabbi and Mentor, he is also survived by a world of devoted congregants, students and friends.
