RAPHAEL "RAFI" SCHWARTZ

May 15, 1932 - July 17, 2020

FAMILY GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 AM MONDAY 7/20/2020 at HEBREW MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY. Age 88, Rafi, of in Pembroke Pines, Florida and formerly of Michigan, died July 17,2020. Born in Ludmir Poland in 1932. Raphael survived the Holocaust along with his parents and his brother Yakov. After the war, the family emigrated to Israel and Raphael served as a captain in the Israeli Defense Forces. He came to Detroit in 1956 where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Raphael worked in the auto industry for Ford Motor Company and Chrysler, and also provided expert testimony in a number of legal cases. He impacted the lives of hundreds of students in the metro-Detroit area, teaching in the United Hebrew Schools, preparing bar- and bat-mitzvah students, and tutoring students in a variety of secular subjects. Husband of Judith Schwartz. Brother of Yakov Harari (Rena). Father of Dahlia Schwartz (Kathleen Moltz), David Schwartz (Rachel Kosoy), and Mark Schwartz (Andi Kaiser). Grandfather of Aliana Schwartz and Itamar Moltz, Noah and Eli Schwartz, and Talia and Jacob Schwartz. Cousin to Ruti Zur (Amos), Arella Drukman, and Elan Levanon (Drora). OFFICIATING: Rabbi S. Rubenstein INTERMENT: Hebrew Memorial Park Cemetery SHIVA: Shiva will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 21-23, at the home of Dahlia Schwartz, 31170 Sunset Court, Beverly Hills MI, in the backyard, from 4:30-7:30 pm with services at 7 pm.
