GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m. at FLINT-Machpeleh Cemetery, 4615 Branch Rd, Flint, MI 48506 James David (Jim, Jimmy) Koenig: Jim was born on February 14, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, where he was raised. Many of the members of his extended family refer to him as Jimmy. Jim passed on September 9, 2026. Jim often tells friends of his mother, Stella, calling him at his job at the City of Flint, asking the other workers to connect her with her BEST BOY. Jim married his first wife, Donna, with whom he fathered his favorite toys, Rachelle, Colleen, and Daniel. Donna and Jim made certain that the children were the focus of their lives, and Jim credits Donna with being a good partner even when communication was strained after their divorce. While working at the city, and teaching part time at Baker College, Jim met and married Jenny. As a young boy, fear of the dark sparked an interest in self-defense, culminating in 50 years of training with Jim eventually earning the rank of 3rd degree Black Belt. He was no longer afraid of the dark. Jim earned an MBA after retiring from City of Flint. He began teaching part-time for Baker College where Jim soon was promoted to Dean of Business and Technology. After earning the equivalent of 30 years of employment, Jim retired from Baker College in 2012 as the Senior Vice President for Academics. Still feeling too young to retire, Jim became interested in RV travel. He and Jenny purchased a 40-foot motor home and began a 10-year opportunity to visit with friends and family throughout the U.S. and Canada. Jim also became active in the RV leadership volunteering as the President of the Blue Water RVers Chapter. Jim was soon asked to be the Senior Vice President of the Great Lakes Area (GLAMA) MotorCoach Association, one of 10 areas of the Family Motor Coach Association. He and Jenny took three of the four the older grandkids on cross-country adventures in the RV, which was a highlight for the kids. Eventually, Jim had to resign from his leadership duties of both organizations due to the development of Parkinson’s Disease. He continued to participate in physical activities and various therapies to slow the progression of the disease. Jim was a long-standing member of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy, Michigan, where he was active for several years as a member of the Religious Rituals Committee, leading services and tutoring B’nai Mitzvah students. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Herbert Koenig, sister Florence Berner, brother-in-law Irving Berner and granddaughter Carmen Snyder. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; ex-wife, Donna (Arnie) DeAngelis; son Daniel (Kai Chang Lu) Koenig in Clawson, MI; daughter Colleen (Michael) Nyland in Aurora, IL, and her children, Katy & Andy; daughter Rachelle Koenig in Oswego, IL, and her children, Ella & Sam; daughter Brianna Creque (Tyler Snyder) in Harrison Township, MI, and her children Cole, Charlie, and Cara; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 3 great-nieces, 5 great-nephews and several cousins. Graveside services will be held at Machpelah Cemetery in Flint, MI with Rabbi Alicia Harris officiating. The family will be gathering at the residence beginning at 3 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after the funeral. Condolence visits are welcome. Shiva services will be held at 6:00 p.m. 25172 Anchor Lane Harrison Township, MI 48045 In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Congregation Shir Tikvah’s prayer book fund in Troy, Michigan.
