RIVA MAGID

March 3, 1927 - February 15, 2020

SERVICES: 2:00 PM MONDAY 2/17/2020 at BETH ABRAHAM CEMETERY CHAPEL Riva Gavrilovna Magid (3/3/1927-2/15/2020), 92, of Oak Park, Michigan, passed away on February 15, 2020. She was born in Dubossary, Moldova, on March 3, 1927, to Sonya and Gavril Roitburd. Riva is predeceased by her husband, Yefim Aronovich Magid (6/17/1917-2/23/1980). Yefim and Riva were married on 4/29/1949 in Tiraspol, Moldova, and raised two beautiful children: Leonid Magid (8/14/1950-7/12/2018) and Anna Ring. Riva is survived by family in all corners of the world, including Israel: daughter-in-law Larisa Magid, grandchildren Stella and Igor Podolski and Jane Magid, and great-grandchildren Barry and Daniella Podolski; Germany: brother and sister-in-law, Ilya and Vera Rojtburd, nephew Oleg and Rita Rojtburd, and grandchildren Herbert Rojtburd and Mark Rojtburd; Michigan, USA: daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Elliott Ring, and grandchildren, Gabriella Ring and Phillip Ring. Riva is survived by nephews, nieces and cousins in U.S. and Israel. Riva spent most of her working career at a canned food plant for 40 years in Tiraspol, Moldova; for over 25 years, she worked there as a Technical Data and Innovations Engineer. Riva came to the United States in 1991 and several years after became a U.S. citizen. She was a long-time (20 years) resident of Teitel Jewish Apartments in Oak Park, Michigan, where she had many friends and acquaintances. Everybody there loved her as she was always friendly and ready to help people with her advice or her wisdom. Lovingly known as “Baba” or “Ba” by her grandchildren, she was a fixture in the Ring household, helping to raise grandchildren Gabriella and Phillip and teach them Russian, too. She attended dance recitals, piano recitals, bar and bat mitzvahs, birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and the high school and college graduations of Gabriella and Phillip. She considered the success of her grandchildren as the success of her own. While her body began weakening the past decade, her mind and memory always stayed sharp, and she maintained an active social life in and out of her apartment building. She always cooked delicious traditional Russian dishes whenever she could, spent time watching Russian television and reading Russian newspapers and books, and loved to speak on the phone with family in U.S., Israel and Germany, as well as hometown friends and former co-workers around the world. She will be missed deeply by everyone who was lucky enough to know her and love her. We will always love our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin! Her optimism and passion for life will stay in our hearts and memories forever. Rest in peace. Age 92, of Oak Park, died February 15, 2020. Beloved wife to the late Yefim Magid Devoted mother of Anna (Elliott) Ring and the late Leonid (Larisa) Magid. Loving grandmother of Stella (Igor) Podolsky-Magid, Jane Magid, Gabriella Ring and Phillip Ring. Proud great-grandmother of Berry Podolsky and Daniella Podolsky.
