Miriam received a B.A. and M.A. from Wayne State University, working her way through college while employed by the Packard Motor Car Co. and the Wayne library. Miriam married her beloved soulmate Harry Weberman on October 31, 1948, with whom she had three children. Harry passed away in 2015 at age 93. Miriam was an esteemed and proud public educator. While raising their three children, Miriam first taught secular subjects at the Yeshiva in Detroit, then became a classroom and critic teacher in Detroit, a reading specialist in Warren, MI, and then principal of Walled Lake Elementary School, from which she retired in 1991. She also taught teachers to teach reading at Madonna College. Miriam is survived by her three adoring children, Bernie (the late Rachelle Levitt) of Washington, DC; David of Vienna, Austria; and Freya of Huntington Woods, MI; by brother Leo Hollander (Harriett) of Farmington Hills; by her five cherished grandchildren Melissa Weberman, Emily Weberman, Philip Helfrick, Talia Helfrick, and Lucie Weberman; and by her many dear friends, relatives, and former colleagues and students. Miriam was predeceased by brothers David (the late Giselle) and Martin (Jodie); brother-in law Herbie Weberman (Joyce); and sisters in-law Francis MacInnes (the late Kenzie), Betty Silverman (the late Larry), and Ruth Blumberg (the late Harry). She was a proud feminist and Democrat, was always fascinated by all things Jewish, and was a devoted member of Congregation B'nai Moshe for 65 years. As such, a celebration for all friends and family in honor of Miriam's life will be planned once it is safe to do so.
